Qatar Charity's (QC) transformative projects, especially the Al-Noor Islamic Multi-Service Center, are empowering Mauritania’s remote communities by strengthening resilience, expanding access to vital services, and driving sustainable local development.
The center includes a mosque, a health center, an artesian well, and a preparatory school. Founded in 1999, the preparatory school relocated to the center in 2018 with a new six-classroom facility after its original building decayed. The institution has graduated hundreds of students over the years and currently educates 186 students, with 70% being girls.
The health center serves hundreds of patients from the municipality and nearby villages, providing check-ups and treatments, organizing vaccination drives and health awareness campaigns, and carrying out screenings for diseases and malnutrition. Meanwhile, the artesian well supplies roughly 33% of the municipality’s drinking water.
Mr. Mohamed Habib, financial officer at a community development association managing the center, recalls the challenges villagers faced before its establishment. He says, "Years ago, they struggled with inadequate school and hospital facilities in the municipality, prompting them to seek solutions. Qatar Charity responded by building the Al-Noor Islamic Multi-Service Center, significantly enhancing living conditions, stability, and access to essential services.”
Ms. Fatma regularly visits the health center, monitors her children’s education at its adjacent school, and shops at the nearby market. She returns home delighted, easily accessing these vital services.
