Qatar Charity (QC), through its Morocco branch, has signed a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to build and equip the Sheikha Maryam bint Jassim bin Ali Al Thani Mosque in Marrakech. The project will adhere to the highest architectural and technical standards and is generously funded by His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Ahmed Issa, Director of Mosques at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and Mr. Mohammed AbuHaloub, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Morocco branch.

With a total cost of QAR 12 million, this landmark project is set to become one of the largest mosques in Marrakech, covering an area of 2,100 square meters in a vital part of the city. The mosque will accommodate up to 1,500 worshippers, providing a comfortable environment for worship, and strengthening community cohesion.

The agreement underscores the commitment of both parties to collaborate on high-impact projects and highlights Qatar Charity’s dedication to building partnerships with local authorities in the countries where it operates, ensuring the implementation of high-quality, long-lasting initiatives.

The project will feature a large prayer hall for men, a separate hall for women, ablution facilities, toilets, accommodations for the imam and muezzin, green spaces, and external parking areas, all designed to enhance the comfort and tranquility of worshippers.

Construction is expected to commence soon, with the mosque to be built and equipped according to the highest architectural and technical standards, serving as a beacon for worship, learning, and community engagement.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Mr. Mohammed AbuHaloub, Country Director of Qatar Charity’s Morocco branch, stated: “This project reflects the organization’s commitment to supporting sustainable religious and cultural infrastructure in the Kingdom of Morocco and highlights the deep fraternal ties and constructive cooperation between Qatar and Morocco.”

For his part, Mr. Ahmed Issa, Director of Mosques at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in Morocco, said: “This agreement represents a successful model of fruitful partnership, contributing to the spiritual and cultural role of mosques and strengthening the distinguished bilateral relations between Moroccan institutions and their international counterparts.”
