Qatar Charity celebrated the graduation of 185 male and female students from among its sponsored beneficiaries as part of the twenty-fifth cohort for the 2024–2025 academic year, under the “Talib Al-Ilm” scholarship program supported by philanthropists in Qatar through the “Rofaqa” program. The initiative aims to support higher education and qualify Somali cadres capable of leading development and community building.

The ceremony, held on the campus of Mogadishu University, was attended by the university’s president,

Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, President of Mogadishu University Mr. AbdulFattah Adam, along with college deans, faculty members, and the graduates’ families.

Qatar Charity’s congratulatory message

At the beginning of the ceremony, Abdul Fattah Adam, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Somalia, affirmed that this day represents a historic milestone crowning years of fruitful cooperation between Qatar Charity, Mogadishu University, and the students’ families. Addressing the sponsored students, he said: “We provided the support, and you exerted the effort, becoming a model of perseverance and determination.” He added: “This moment is not the end of the journey but the beginning of a practical path that requires strong will and doubled effort from the graduates who had the privilege of studying in a stable academic environment.”

He extended his thanks to the generous sponsors in Qatar, whom he described as “the essential pillar and active partner in the success of this project,” and expressed his appreciation to the parents and teachers, saying: “Without your efforts, we would not have reached this bright moment.”

Leadership positions

Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Mursal, President of Mogadishu University, congratulated the graduates and praised the pioneering role of Qatar Charity in supporting education. He said: “Today we celebrate the graduation of a distinguished group from the twenty-fifth cohort, a pivotal turning point in our students’ journey, and the result of a strong strategic partnership between the university and Qatar Charity.”

He added: “This partnership, which has lasted for more than 27 years, has helped graduate a generation of leaders who now occupy key positions in government institutions and the private sector. This generous support is a direct investment in Somalia’s promising future.” He affirmed that Qatar Charity has become part of the university family for decades.

Students expressed their happiness with this achievement. Ibrahim Abdulaziz Hajar, who ranked second at the university level with an average of 96% in accounting, said: “Today, we are not only being honored, but we also carry a great responsibility to serve the community. We pledge to Qatar Charity, the generous sponsors, Mogadishu University, and our families to be active and creative contributors to positive change.”

Meanwhile, Najma Yusuf Nur Mohamed, who ranked first in the College of Medicine with a 96% average, expressed her gratitude, saying: “What we have achieved was not an easy journey, but the support of our generous sponsors was a true pillar. They gave us trust, security, and opportunity, and today we pledge to dedicate all our knowledge to serving the people of this nation and the world.”

Since the launch of the “Talib Al-Ilm” program at Mogadishu University in 1997, the number of beneficiaries has reached 3,684 students, most of whom have joined the public and private sectors, with some taking leadership positions reflecting the program’s sustainable developmental impact.

It is worth noting that Qatar Charity’s “Rofaqa” program sponsors more than 225,000 individuals worldwide, including orphans, students, people with special needs, vulnerable families, and teachers. The program aims to empower orphans up to the age of 23 instead of 18 and provides scholarships for orphans to continue their university education or enroll in training centers qualifying them for the labor market
