The two-day training forum for the third edition of the “Future’s Writers” program began today to train 90 students from primary, preparatory and secondary schools, who have qualified in the first phase of the edition and have moved to compete in its second phase.

The program is implemented by Qatar Charity in cooperation with its various partners including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar University, Dar Rosa Publishing, Khair Jalees Book Club and the programme’s sponsor, Barwa Bank.

The Basics of the Story

The students are expected to attend two training courses on the fundamentals of short story writing by professors at Qatar University in addition to the judging team for the primary educational stage.

The training courses are aimed at improving the student’s skills to enable them to write their own stories in order to compete in winning the first three places, each for each educational stage, at the end of the program.

The training workshops for male and female students from preparatory and secondary schools will be held at Hamza Bin Abdulmouttalib Preparatory Independent School and in Al Dabbagh Hall at QC’s headquarters respectively. However, the workshops for both male and female students from primary schools will be organized at Al Andalus Primary School for Girls.

The first phase of third edition of the “Future’s Writers” program has ended on Thursday, which was attended by 1,381 students from the elementary, preparatory and secondary schools, competing in the writing  of descriptive and narrative texts. The judging committee that consists of children’s stories writers, educators and Arabic language experts, selected the best 30 students in expressive abilities and creative writing from each of the three educational stages.

Greater Participation

The third edition of the program witnessed a significant expansion that included the participation of students from primary, private and foreign schools for the first time, as well as a greater participation, both in terms of the number of students and schools. The number of participating schools reached 172 primary, secondary and secondary schools for boys and girls within the State of Qatar.

Educators appreciated the role of the “Future’s Writers” Program in developing the writing abilities of participating students, as Mohammed Al Baloushi, Director of Hamza Bin Abdulmouttalib Preparatory Independent School, said: "The program not only discovers the writing talents but also develops them through training workshops. It promotes creative writing in Arabic language”.

Mr. Ahmed Al-Duks, an Arabic language expert at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and a member of the program's judging committee, explained that the method of competition was designed in the first phase of this edition to be more accurate and choose the most distinguished writing talents.

The students also expressed their satisfaction with the method of evaluation of the first phase, as Abdullah Al-Kaabi, a student at Tariq ibn Ziyad Independent Secondary School, who is among the finalists for the second phase, praised the method of evaluation, considering that it enabled the students to show their best abilities in the field of creative writing. He also hoped that the most creative students would compete in the final phase of this edition of the program.
