The Qatar Charity Office in Khartoum has implemented a large number of water projects in many places of Sudan to put an end to the water problems in the country.

The implemented water projects, which include establishing water plants, drilling artesian and surface wells, and providing a drilling unit to dig deep wells, benefited hundreds of thousands of people.

Director of the QC’s Office in Sudan Hussein Kermas said “by providing safe drinking water, Qatar Charity aims to improve the public health of poor communities and to control diseases, which spread through the use of contaminated water".

Providing safe drinking water is one of the most significant areas of the QC’s work in order to help poor and needy people with safe potable water free of contaminants and diseases that harm both human and animal health, Kermas added.

4 Nile Water Purification Plants

In cooperation and partnership with Munazzamat Al-Da’wa Al-Islamiyya and the Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity set up 4 water purification plants in many villages scattered along the Nile River, at cost of QR 7.5 million, to cover the needs of more than 87,000 people for Clean Drinking Water.

These water purification plants have production capacity ranging from 500 to 2,800 cubic meters per day as well as they are equipped with tanks, service and administrative facilities, and laboratories for water analysis.

Water Plants Under Construction

A water plant project is currently being implemented in Wad Hamid, in the Nile River State at a cost of QR 2 million, which will have production capacity of 1,800 cubic meter per day, and will benefit 25,000 people approximately. There is also a plan to set up 20 water plants with different capacities in six other states, at an estimated cost of about $ 12 million.

A Project in the Darfur region

As part of its partnership with the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity has also started the implementation of other water projects in South and Central Darfur at a cost of about QR 11 million under the framework of Qatar’s Darfur Development Initiative and they are expected to be completed by the end of April 2018 and will provide clean water sources to a number of localities in the region.

The projects include drilling 255 wells equipped with hand pumps, setting up 3 large water plants with overhead water tanks having a capacity of 50 cubic meters and equipped with an energy source (generator / solar energy), and establishing 11 medium water plants with 30 m3 overhead water tanks equipped with energy sources in addition to the distribution of maintenance kits for hand pumps, and the formation of wells and water plants management committees.

Well Drilling Unit

In 2013, Qatar Charity brought a drilling unit from Germany to dig deep wells in multi-layered geological areas of Sudan to reduce the cost and managed to dig100 wells in several areas of North Kordofan, South Darfur and Gedaref.

Water Harvesting

Since its opening in 1994, Qatar Charity implemented a large number of Water Projects so far, which include more than 500 surface and artesian well and more than 650 water coolers to benefit more than 302,000 people.

QC provides emergency relief t

Qatar Charity (QC) has started the distribution of dry food to more than 6,000 families affected by drought in Baidoa city of Somalia. Thousands of Somali families have been displaced from affected remote areas to nearby villages and towns, due to the drought, which has frequently occurred in the country over the last three years, because of the disruptions in the rainfall.

Director of Qatar Charity Office in Somalia, Abdel Nour Mirsal said the dry food has been distributed to 670 drought-hit families in Baidoa and nearby areas as the first phase of a relief aid project for drought-affected people in Somalia.

Qatar Charity noted that the Emergency Relief Project included the distribution of dry food, safe drinking water through tanks, medical convoys, and the distribution of plastic blankets for families to protect them from the heat of the sun and the cold of the night.

QC said that the relief campaign will be implemented in the displaced people camps in the outskirts of Mogadishu and most affected regions from the far north to the far south.

The Emergency Relief Projects include medical convoys providing primary medical services in Somalia, in order to reduce the spread of diseases and epidemics, in addition to a charity kitchen benefiting daily about 2,000 families in the cities of Mogadishu and Baidoa.

The humanitarian situation in Somalia may worsen this year due to drought, based on climate reports and forecasts, according to international humanitarian reports.

Earlier, the QC Office in Somalia rehabilitated many thousands of the floods and cyclones victims through its early recovery programs, which have contributed to restoring basic services and environment and social life, providing livelihoods and shelter, and reintegrating displaced populations.

Qatar Charity and UNHCR signed an agreement in October 2017 in Geneva to reintegrate Somali returnees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and receiving communities through the construction and rehabilitation of public infrastructure in the water, education, shelter, and sanitation sectors with a budget of over $9 million, which will approximately benefit 100,000 people.

QC drills 27 wells for

Qatar Charity has drilled 18 wells to benefit 10,000 people while the drilling of 9 remaining wells is expected to be completed in October in several areas of Idlib bordering Turkey.

With generous support from the people of Qatar, the charity continues its efforts to provide Safe Drinking Water to displaced people in the camps inside Syria.

The wells drilling project was started in April, targeting camps that lack many basic services, particularly the scarcity of clean water sources. The reality on the ground indicates the lack of wells providing clean water in the targeted camps, long distance to water wells, and high costs to move the water, which cannot be afforded by displaced families.

The well projects include mineral water tanks with a capacity of 1,000 liters, pipelines and electrical connections.

The projects targeted camps and displaced communities in the villages of Salqin, Darkush, Bidama and Al-Janudiyah in the governorate of Idlib, and covered the needs of their inhabitants, schools, mosques and others in region.

Among the important wells that have been completed by Qatar Charity is the "Norah Well" in the As-Sifsafeh camp in the Harem-Salqin area, where 320 displaced families (2000 people) live. The well provides water for the camp residents and school students.

The "al-Wafa Well", which is allocated to the school of Mizin for the Displaced Syrians is one of the important wells that meets the need of 300 students in the primary and preparatory school.

The residents of the beneficiary camps have extended their thanks to the philanthropists in Qatar for their contribution to alleviating their suffering. They also expressed the hope that Qatar Charity would help them with the generators and expenses for operating the implem

The Gaza is worthy of Life Campaign was launched Sunday. It aims to make contribution towards the development of Gaza strip, and help alleviate the suffering of its people.

The campaign is supervised by the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities. Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, Education Above All, and the Silatech Foundation are participating in the campaign, which aims to raise QR10 million to cover the urgent needs of the people of Gaza in five main fields. Those five fields are health, education, social welfare, water, and economic empowerment. The campaign will last for two weeks, during which the participating institutions will work on financing and implementing a package of programs aimed at providing assistance to as many people as possible in one or more of the targeted areas. There will be a particular focus on alleviating the suffering of women, children and the elderly. There will also be economic empowerment programs aimed at helping youth to use their energy productively to escape the vicious cycle of poverty.

The campaign reflects the support of the people of Qatar and their commitment towards fulfilling the humanitarian needs of the people in Gaza, especially in times of need. It also reflects the integration of Qatar's official and popular roles in carrying out their humanitarian duties, both in terms of urgent relief assistance in times of disasters and crises, or in the implementation of sustainable development projects that promote the chances of peace and stability and fight poverty.

In a press conference held to announce the event, Qatar Red Crescent's Mohammed Abdullah Al Mohannadi said that the aim of the campaign is to achieve comprehensive long-term development in the Gaza Strip and to change the life of the society in this sector in all possible fields, in order to benefit the lives of citizens in the Gaza Strip in all aspects whether in the overall economy, health or education sectors.

Executive director of the Charitys operations department Faisal Al Fuhaida expressed hope that the organization's participation yields the desired effects of the campaign. He highlighted that Qatar Charity has been operating in Gaza since the nineties. The past 10 years saw it carry out 1462 projects in different fields, he added.

Senior Representative of Fundraising Department at Education Above All, Mohammed Jassim Al Naama said that the mission that the Foundation will carry out from the proceeds of the Gaza is worthy of life campaign will be dedicated to empowering Palestinian youth in the Gaza strip, through the provision of university scholarships, vocational qualification, support schools, universities, and contribute to the advancement of the educational sector as a whole.

Al Naama added that (EAA) Foundation has many projects that it implements in the Gaza strip, including but not limited to the project the dynamic Gaza future launched by the al fakhoora program in 2009 which provided comprehensive scholarships for marginalized youth, with a total of 960 young people and girls until December 2017.

He also pointed out that there is a project implemented by Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) which aims to improve the potential of educational institutions that give scientific degrees in the field of technology, leading to higher rates of recruitment of new graduates and expansion of entrepreneurial initiatives, and is expected to benefit about 3,000 young Palestinians.

Silatech's Mahbooba Majeed Zada stated that the organization seeks through its participation in the Gaza is worthy of life campaign to strengthen the ongoing development efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering and harsh conditions of the Palestinians in Gaza through economic empowerment of young people to ensure a decent living that contribute to social development.

Zada said the organization has provided more than 12,000 Palestinian females and males youth with jobs that have contributed to providing income to entire families, representing the role of the organization in providing vocational training, developing the skills required by employers, linking them to practical training opportunities, jobs, and supporting the funding necessary for the establishment of projects that generate income.

Representatives of humanitarian institutions involved in the Gaza is worthy of life campaign urged people in Qatar to interact with the campaign and donate to their various projects in order to revitalize Gaza's development efforts and help some 2 million people in the sector to provide them with a decent life and to meet their urgent needs.

Indicators of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip reveal serious and disturbing challenges facing the population, noting that the poverty rate reaches 65 percent, and that 50 percent of the population of about 2 million people are unemployed, while unemployment among young people and graduates reaches 60 percent, and the per capita income per day only US 2.

In the area of the main needs of the sector, statistics indicate that 7 of 10 Palestinian families depend on humanitarian assistance and that half of Gaza's population depends on food aid from international institutions, while only 10 percent of the population has access to Safe Drinking Water, and the sector suffers medical shortage of medicines by 45 percent, a severe shortage of 58 percent of laboratory supplies, and 4,800 patients in Gaza need daily access to life-saving health services or those that ensure their survival, while not enough fuel to operate generators that provide electricity to hospitals for more than a month, as the number of hours of power outages in the sector is 16 20 hours per day

Qatar Charity to drill 200 wel

Qatar Charity (QC) has completed the drilling of more than 50 wells in a number of rural communities and remote areas of the Republic of Ghana as part of the implementation of the plan initiated by QC’s office in the capital Accra.

The plan includes the drilling of more than 200 surface and artesian wells, with the aim of providing Safe Drinking Water to the people of the targeted places. Some 25 wells have been drilled and inaugurated recently in Agona.

The wells were inaugurated in a ceremony attended by Mohammed Ahmed Al-Humaid, Qatari Ambassador to Ghana, a number of local officials and a large number of local residents.

The Ambassador said that the drilling of wells is one of the projects that Qatar Charity implements in the country to contribute to addressing the challenges faced by many local communities.

He pointed out that the drilling of water wells for remote communities will greatly benefit their people and save their time and effort, as they were going through many sufferings to get water, noting that all those hardships now became a thing of the past.

The Ambassador expressed his optimism that the groundwater wells would be a good source of drinking water for the local population, as well as would help prevent the spread of water-related diseases among the people.

He added that there are many common interests between Qatar and Ghana, which both countries are keen to strengthen and take to the next level.

For her part, Mrs. Jostina Marigold Asan, MCE of Agona West Municipality, thanked the donors of Qatar for their support, which has contributed to the provision of safe water to the communities in dire need.

She added that since water is essential for life, drilling wells is an important step that will positively impact the lives of more than 30,000 people benefiting from these projects.

She hoped that Qatar Charity would consider building and developing Abu Bakr Al Siddiq High School in the Municipality to provide quality education to students in accordance with the highest modern standards.

Qatar Charity has opened its regional office in Ghana in 2107 to intensify its efforts in the implementation of Humanitarian and Development Programs and projects in order to benefit the peoples of the West African countries.
