  • The health center, the first of its kind in the region, includes a mosque and Quran memorization house and provides therapeutic health-care services, for 80,000 people.

With the support of the people of Qatar, QC's office in Somalia opens a Model Health Center in Jazeera region that is located only 30 kilometers southwest of the Somali capital Mogadishu. This center will cover the therapeutic health-care services for the benefit of 80,000 people.

"The health center was built due to the lack of health centers in many Somali provinces, the outbreak of epidemic and infectious diseases, the difficulties facing the residents who are forced to travel to Mogadishu to meet their health needs, the high treatment costs and other negative impacts on the vulnerable groups," Mr. Mohammed Hussein Omar, QC's director of the regional office in Kenya and the authorized person who follows up the projects carried out in Somalia said.

Children Immunization

He pointed out that the health center provides therapeutic health care services that reduce the outbreak of the epidemic and infectious diseases among the population and reduce mortality by immunizing children. He assured that QC built the health center to accelerate development in Somalia and help people of the region have a decent life.

Mr. Omar extended his deepest thanks to the people of Qatar for supporting this important project, as they have usually contributed to the implementation of many development projects, financially sponsored many families in need, and provided assistance to Somali civilians in need most of whom are orphans, students and persons with special needs.

Dialysis Center

It is noteworthy that Qatar Charity has previously opened a dialysis center at Arafat hospital, Mogadishu, which is the first of its kind in Somalia. This comprehensive dialysis center provides a monthly constant care for 150 dialysis patients most of whom are in need.

In response to appeals launched by the Somali government and international humanitarian organizations, QC has recently offered an urgent humanitarian aid to Somali people to reduce the impacts of the severe drought that hits the country and to alleviate the burdens of the people who are suffering from the two-decade civil war. In this regard, QC distributed 500 dry rations to the affected families in Garadag and the villages of Sanaag province where the population is suffering from food shortage following the death of their livestock they depend on.

Qatar Charity's intervention in Somalia dates back to the nineties of the last century. In December 2007, QC opened a representative office in Mogadishu as part of its strategic plan that aims at rebuilding, activating and organizing the fieldwork. In January 2010, Qatar Charity transformed its representative office in Somalia into a field office after the approval of Ministry of social Affairs.

Qatar Charity in Somalia carried out programs and activities in several areas including Sponsorships, social welfare, education, culture, water and sanitation, income-generating projects, urgent relief and early recovery.
