Qatar Charity starts operating Sheikha Aisha City for Orphans in Sudan

Qatar Charity has started operating Sheikha Aisha bint Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah Model Orphans City, in Al Damar in the River Nile State of northern Sudan. The charity has started distributing houses to families that were selected according to specific criteria. It is also operating educational and health facilities in the city in co-ordination with the ministry of social affairs, the ministry of health and the ministry of education of the River Nile State. The Director of Qatar Charity Office in Sudan, Hussein Kermash, said that the beneficiary families have started moving to the city. The occupancy rate of the city’s houses has reached more than 90% so far. He added that the city’s markets are providing all the basic needs to its inhabitants. More than 400 students have been enrolled into the primary and secondary schools as well as kindergartens. An integrated health centre provides the necessary service for the city’s residents. The Sheikha Aisha bint Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Attiyah Model Orphans City (Pictured right) has been built on an area of 200,000 sq m in Al Damar at a cost of $12mn. The city was officially opened in April.
