Funded by "Rohama Qatar" initiative and implemented by Mercy International Association, Qatar Charity has inaugurated "Doha Al kheir" Model Village in "Damerjog", Arta Region, Djibouti.
Senior officials such as the Minister of Housing, Environment and Urban Planning in Djibouti, Musa Mohamed Ahmed attended the inaguration. Besides, His Excellency, the Chargé d'affaires of the Qatari Embassy in Djibouti, Mr. Nasser Mohammed Said Abu Sala'a. QC's delegation-in the inauguration- headed by Khalid Abdullah Al Yafei, Director of Operations Department; the members of "Rohama Qatar" initiative; and the delegation of "Ataa Alkheir from Doha Al kheir" ( Good Giving from Good Doha)
Different Facilities
“Doha Al kheir” consists of 100 houses, a dispensary, a mosque, a primary school, a sewing center, a water network, and a large tank. QC is looking forward to having more than 5000 people in Damerjog taking advantages of its facilities.
The model village, which took just one year to be built, provides houses for 100 families, which comprises more than 1,200 persons, provides basic Health Care for them and offers educational services to more than 360 persons (there were no schools in this area). After suffering from a water crisis for a long time, the people now have access to clean water. Further, the project contributes to creating work opportunities through teaching and training students at a sewing workshop.
Crisis Resolution
His Excellency, the Minister of Housing, Environment and Urban Planning in Djibouti who sponsored the inauguration extended his deepest thanks to the Qatari philanthropists including the state of Qatar, Qatar Charity and "Rohama’ Qatar" initiative for financing and carrying out this large project. He continued stating that the village will solve the housing crisis in Djibouti and will benefit the whole residents of the region since it includes a medical center, a mosque, a primary school and a sewing center. “The village is a distinctive addition to the whole region especially and Djibouti generally” he said.
Strong Bonds
For his part, Eng. Khalid Al Yafei, Director of QC's Operations Department emphasized on the developmental efficiency of the village, expressing his thanks to the President of Djibouti, Mr. Ismail Omar Guelleh, and the Prime Minister of Djibouti, Mr. Abdoulkader Kamal Mohamad, for facilitating QC’s and Mercy International Association’s work. As he thanked the members of “Rohama’ Qatar” and “Atta Alkheir” from Doha Alkheir initiatives for their role in financing the project. The branch of Mercy International Association in Djibouti had a role in implementing the project. After that, Al-Yafei presented the most important projects of QC in Djibouti during the last year and a half that valued at around M15 QR, benefiting 77,801 people. At the end of his speech, he wished the continuity of opening these kind of distinctive projects in favor of developing and swelling Djiboutian people.
In his turn, His Excellency, the Chargé d'affaires of the Qatari Embassy in Djibouti, Mr. Nasser Mohammed Said Abu Sala'a, considered that the project of the Model Village a distinctive addition to the projects of QC in Djibouti. He continued, this kind of projects reflects the strength and distinction of the support provided by Qatari people to the Djiboutian people. These projects express the strength of the relationship between the two brotherly peoples and the depth of the ties that bind them.
Developmental Achievements
Both Mr. Hamad M. Al-Shahwany, the representative of ‘Atta AlKheir’ initiative and Naser Almoghaiseeb, the representative of ‘Rohama’ Qatar’ team, appreciated the role of QC for funding and implementing this pompous project. They drew attention that this project is an added value to the activities of the Islamic organizations that shelter, help, and serve needed people in Djibouti.
It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity -Djibouti Office was established in mid-2015. During this period, it implemented a variety of projects, benefiting 77,801 Djiboutian people and refugees in Djibouti. These projects were distributed into three educational projects ranging from constructing and furnishing schools to the distributing of bicycles to students who live away from their schools, lacking the ability to afford the daily transportation expenses. Also, building two mosques, as well as implementing 16 water projects and sanitations varied between drilling wells and water systems. Besides building two health dispensaries, building and furnishing of 100 houses as part of Doha Al Kheir Model Village. QC carried out 179 income-generating projects, distributed to needy families to help them afford the cost of living and the burdens of life, and 13 relief and seasonally projects which were about the distribution of relief items as food baskets, breakfast meals, and sacrificial meat. With ensuring 238 orphans and poor families so far, QC plans to implement more projects in the coming period.
