Important statistics

About Winter in Areas of Crisis

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has estimated the number of 15 million of Syrian and Iraqi refugees in the region, and expressed its concern that only 1 in 4 of these persons were expected to receive appropriate support to face the upcoming winter.

UNHCR has also Indicated that 4 million of the most vulnerable groups of these refugees are in need of substantial assistance in order to prepare adequately for the winter.

For Syrian refugees in particular, it is the seventh consecutive winter they spend in asylum countries. Severe frost, Heavy snowfalls and continuous rains have become annual difficulties for millions of refugees and displaced people living in flimsy tents and temporary shelters in places such as the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, northern Iraq, and Syria.
