Arsel Al-Amal (Send Hope) Initiative Continues to Provide School Meals to the Deprived Students in the Middle East

Pizza Hut in Qatar inaugurated “Send Hope” initiative supported by QC to provide school meals to the deprived students in the Middle East by supporting school nutrition projects of the UN’s World Food Programme.

This initiative allows Pizza Hut’s costumers, in all of its branches, in Qatar to donate to ‘School Meals’ project the amount they want. The donation is added to the costumers’ bills. With each Qatari Riyal given, a child will receive a meal at school. These children will have a better future to aspire for.

Last May, QC and WFP signed an agreement in WFP’s headquarter in Rome, Italy, to fight hunger and malnutrition, and to bolster food security worldwide. This strategic cooperation will strengthen the private sector’s role in the battle against these life-threatening challenges which threaten the lives of millions of people whether in the times of peace or conflict. These challenges also hinder the developmental efforts exerted in many countries.

Abdullah Al-Wardat, WFP’s representative and the Gulf’s Office Director, said, “We sincerely thank Pizza Hut for this great initiative which supports the Programme’s efforts to fight hunger and malnutrition by providing students with school meals in the Middle East. Our strategic cooperation with QC offers a chance to the Qatari private sector’s companies, which understand that fighting hunger and malnutrition is the primary element for their success and for the community’s stability. The companies also understand their moral duty towards the children and the country.”

In a press release, Sterling Cos’ representative, Pizza Hut franchiser in Qatar, said, “It’s our pleasure to cooperate with QC to implement “Send Hope” initiative. We hope it would help support WFP’s efforts to give meals to more than 2,600,000 needy students in the Middle East. I hope this would bring hope to their hearts; I hope it makes their lives better. Education is essential to build a bright future, especially to those with a limited income.”

Mr. Jassim Al-Mansouri, QC’s Marketing Manager, expressed his gratitude to Pizza Hut for this initiative, and expressed his happiness with this cooperation to serve the school children. He also showed his great trust in the companies of the private sector in Qatar and how sure he is that more companies will be involved in supporting such initiative. The private sector is known to be very generous and to have a sense of responsibility towards the needy communities around the world. Its efforts will stand as the practical application of the agreement which QC had signed with WFP. “Send Hope” is expected to be well received for its noble goals.

This cooperation between QC and WFP represents an opportunity for the private sector in Qatar to be more involved in supporting the fight against hunger by supporting QC’s and WFP’s campaigns for collecting financial and in-kind contributions according to the procedures of Human Appeal International. Companies are aware of the fact that by fighting hunger, ending malnutrition and bolstering food security, they can achieve success. They are also aware of the moral duty behind such battle.

QC Builds 30 Mosques and 3 Qur

The plan of QC's office in Bangladesh for the year 2015 includes building 449 mosques and 22 centers for the memorization of the Quran at a cost of 25,928,395 QR from which 200,000 people are expected to benefit. Most of the work has been completed.

By the end of last October, QC had finished building 30 mosques and 3 centers for the memorization of the Quran. They were fully equipped and furnished. They had mattresses, carpets, speakers, fans, shelves for the Holy Quran and other religious books. It is expected that thousands of people will be benefiting from the project, especially those living in the villages and the countryside.

The mosques and centers are built according to excellent standards. They offer a comfortable atmosphere for students and the performers of prayer. They will be able to pray with complete serenity and devotion. They encourage learning and memorizing the Quran, and learning other Sharia sciences. The inhabitants will not have to fear the changing weather; neither the cold nor the heat.

In comparison to the mosques and centers the people of the countryside build, QC's mosques and centers are so much better. Because of their bad financial status, the inhabitants use bamboo sticks, wood, clay, and Zink for building. Their financial resources are very little.

Built last October, these mosques and centers are considered to be part of the plan QC had set for the first 10 months of 2015 for Bangladesh. The plan included building 449 mosques and 22 centers for the memorization of the Quran at a cost of 25,928,395 QR from which 200,000 people are expected to benefit.

Dr. Mohammed Amin Hafith, QC's Office Director in Bangladesh, said that many of the projects were already entirely implemented, while the rest will be so during the coming two months of this year and the beginning of the next one.

"I thank the philanthropists and good doers from Qatar for their generous donations which contributed to the implementation of these projects. QC's projects have left a great impact on the lives of the people of Bangladesh. The projects seek to compensate for the shortages the people suffer from specially in the countryside," said he.

Furthermore, QC has recently implemented a number of projects in Bangladesh which provided public services, health, education, water, mosques and memorization centers. It is expected that 172,000 people will benefit from these projects which were implemented at a cost of around 4,600,000 QR. The supervisors anticipate that by the end of 2015, the work progress will have continued. The services these projects offer are going to be available. The people will be able to start memorizing the Quran, they will have clean drinking water and water for home use, and they will benefit from social care services. Plus, the orphans will have a place to live in, they will have food, will be educated, dressed, treated and trained.

It is worth mentioning that QC has recently built 72 mosques in different places in Bangladesh at a cost of around 4,000,000 QR from which 10,000 people benefited. Plus, next to each mosque, QC dug an Artesian well.

In addition, QC has organized a wedding ceremony for a group of couples in the hall of Al Banat (Girls) Center. 22 orphans benefited from this project; and it was out of their desire to 'complete the other half of their religion' (as marriage is considered to be so in Islam). After the ceremony was over, the beneficiaries received supplies for their houses.

QC started its charity work in Bangladesh when it officially opened its office there in 1995. The quality and number of projects increased rapidly. They included developmental activities and fields such as education, health, water, sanitation, relief, skills improvement, social care, and others.

QC Inaugurates ‘Syria: Endless

The campaign’s target is to collect 54,000,000 QR to make 35,000 displaced Syrians and refugees feel warm.
The campaign seeks to provide winter clothes, heaters, blankets, fuel, and supplies. Donations are 100 – 1,000QR worth.
Al Kuwairi: “I encourage the philanthropists to donate for this campaign so the Syrians would receive winter supplies. We don’t want people dying because of cold again.”

QC inaugurated ‘Syria: Endless Winter’ campaign to help face the cold of winter. Its main goal is to provide winter supplies needed for the Syrians living inside Syria and the refugees in the neighboring countries. The Campaign is to collect around 54,000,000 QR for the benefit of 735,000 people.

After the weather forecast had anticipated that this winter is going to be harsher and colder, QC made sure to inaugurate this campaign so as to hurry and help the Syrians.

QC encouraged the philanthropists and good-doers of Qatar and those residing there to offer a helping hand to the displaced and refugees to alleviate their expected sufferings because of winter. The campaign calls for the people to support the campaign’s products whose prices vary 50 – 1,000QR.

The Campaign’s Products

The campaign’s products include: ‘Winter Banquet for Family of 4’ at a cost of 1,000 QR. It comprises a blanket, a heater, jackets, hats, gloves, socks, and scarves; A ‘Blanket’ at a cost of 100 QR; a ‘Heater’ at a cost of 250 QR; a ‘Winter Bag for Two at a cost of 400 QR which includes hats, gloves, socks, and scarves; a ‘Food Basket’ that is sufficient for a family for one month (it has the basic supplies) at a cost of 200QR; a ‘School Bag’ at a cost of 100 QR; and bread sufficient for a month for one family at a cost of 50 QR.

In a press release, Mr. Youssef Al Kwairi, QC’s CEO, said, “Winter is making the Syrian situation worse. Recently, the number of displaced Syrians and refugees has increased. We have to hurry and help them. I encourage the philanthropists and good doers of Qatar and the people residing there to stand side by side with the Syrians.” He highlighted the importance of having to meet the Syrians’ needs by providing them with supplies that would make them and their children feel warm. He pointed out how QC had already offered similar aids in previous seasons when snowy weather and howling storms were at their worst.

The Outcome of 4 Years

QC was one of the very first to aid the Syrian people. It has a trained team and a specialized management to respond to catastrophes. The number of people who benefited from its aids since 2011 is 6,083,617 affected-people in the fields of food, shelter, health and education, which were implemented at a cost of 322,000,000 QR. According to the 2014 report of FTS of OCHA, QC received the first rank across universal NGOs for the number of aid projects it had implemented for the benefit of the Syrian people.

Last Winter Campaign

128,619 benefited from ‘Syria Winter’ campaign implemented at a cost of 10,000,000QR by QC last winter in a number of Syrian governorates and for refugees in Lebanon and Turkey. The beneficiaries received tents, blankets, mattresses, fuel, heaters, children clothes, supplies and milk for the children and family.

Important Pledges

By the end of last month, QC had organized a conference entitled “The Syrian Humanitarian Crisis Conference”. 50 different international, regional, Arabic, and Syrian humanitarian organizations attended. The conference focused on bringing the humanitarian organizations interested in the Syrian situation together so as to cooperate and coordinate together. The main purpose of the conference was to best face the deteriorating circumstances of the displaced Syrians and refugees; especially that winter’s already started.

The attendants pledged to implement a number of projects at a cost of 144,000,000 QR. QC announced setting aside 100,000,000QR from that amount to the Syrian people starting from 2016. In addition, QC announced paying 30% of any project budget intended to serve the Syrians in winter according to the society’s mechanisms for cooperation and association.

QC Secures the Medical and Hum

QC sponsors 7,270 people in Gaza, among which are orphans; poor; disabled; students; and Qur’an teachers.

QC’s office in Gaza implemented a project to secure its sponsored people their medical and humanitarian needs so as to enable them to have a dignified and respectful life and, to lighten their financial burdens.

Necessary Devices

The project included financial aids distributed to 18 cases sponsored by QC in the Gaza Strip. Their needs included medical devices such as eye glasses and audiphones and necessary devices for chronic diseases, payment for treatments, and others.

QC’s staff paid field visits to the patients to ensure that the process was documented and that the patients made the utmost use of the devices, apparatuses, and medications.

Success Story

Thanks to this project, 52 year old Mas’oud Khalil Mreish’s life has changed. He suffers from a chronic respiratory distress. He had to spend most of his time in the hospital because of his serious need for artificial ventilation. He does not have to do that anymore as QC bought him an alternative source of energy to operate his ventilator at home.

The UBS that QC provided Mreish with enabled him to operate his ventilator despite the recurrent power cuts which can last for over 12 hours daily. He can stay with his family now. He no longer needs to spend his time lying on a hospital bed.

Mreish expressed his gratitude for QC for helping him have a stable life with his family. He said that he no longer had to worry about himself and his family. He also stressed that QC made the best it could to help all of its sponsored.

He added, “I used to depend on an oxygen cylinder when the electricity cut off, but it would run out quickly and I couldn’t afford to refill it. That is why my children used to take me to the hospital. I would stay there for days. Hence, I thank QC for helping me and other sick and needy people.”

Alternative Treatments

Eng. Mohammed Abu Haloub, QC’s office Director in Gaza, emphasized that this project reinforced the solidarity and clemency, and provided the needs of the people QC sponsors. He pointed that the project also reduced the financial burden of the sick sponsored category who suffered from difficult economic conditions.

Mr. Abu Haloub elucidated that some of the beneficiaries faced difficulties finding their medications which were not available due to the siege on Gaza. This required more time to find alternative medications.

The beneficiaries expressed their content about receiving the medications and the medical services. They thanked QC for the efforts it exerts to help the poor families and reconstruct the Gaza Strip after the last Israeli aggression.

Fighting Epidemics

The number of QC’s sponsored in Gaza reached 7,270, among which are 5,901 orphans; 803 poor families; 492 disabled; a number of students; preachers; and Qur’an teachers.

In addition, QC has declared since the first few days of the aggression on Gaza to allocate 20,000,000 QR for the reconstruction of the destroyed houses and for other relief needs like food and medications..

QC recently expanded Al Shifa project’s Medical Center, Al-Daraj. The aim was to limit the spread of infectious diseases and epidemics, to provide basic medical services to the needy categories, and to raise health awareness.

At a cost of 500,000 QR, the project was funded by QC in the framework of its objectives to help the Palestinian brothers and ease their sufferance caused by the occupation.

The project included the construction of a second floor of 350 m²and included providing all the construction requirements to serve the health sector in Gaza Strip in general and widen the benefiting category.

QC Establishes a New Camp for

The camp was established near the Turkey-Syria borders. It included 500 tents; the remaining were distributed in the countryside of Aleppo, Hama and Lattakia. Total number of beneficiaries is 6,000 displaced Syrians.

As part of its continuous campaign ‘Syria: an Endless Winter’, QC continuous the implementation of urgent relief projects. QC has finished establishing a camp for the displaced Syrians near the Turkey-Syria borders. It consists of 500 tents and the remaining 500 were distributed to the affected-families in Aleppo, Hama and Lattakia. The total number of tents which were distributed was 1,000 tents from which 6,000 displaced benefited.

Because of the recent huge displacement which happened to the Syrians, some of the benefiting families used to live with their children in the open, under trees, and the rest lived in crowded tents with other families.

Mr. Faisal Rashid Al Fahida, QC’s Director of Operations, said, “The new camp and distribution of tents were quickly done as a result of the interaction of the Philanthropists in Qatar with ‘Syria: Endless Winter’ Campaign and QC’s desire to bring warmth to the Syrians and offer them shelter.”

He added that QC’s delegation inaugurated ‘Syria: an Endless Winter’ campaign in the beginning of January of this year. The first batch of aids included more than 250,000 pieces for the benefit of around 508,000 people. They were sent to Syria after the press release of the inauguration. The supplies included 1,000 tents, blankets, heaters, jackets, winter bags, food parcels, school bags and baby milk.

He finally thanked the philanthropists and all the donors, “I pray what they have spent for the benefit of needy people returns to them as rewards in life and the hereafter. I encourage all good-doers to continue supporting this project considering the harsh weather and the increasing number of displaced Syrians in the past few months.”

Excellent Specifications

The camp, consisting of 500 tents, was established. The 500 remaining tents were distributed to the affected-families. QC’s field relief team did the distribution under the direct supervision of the coordinators of the society’s relief management Dr. Ayesh Al Qahtani, and Mr. Mohammed Jassim Al Sulaiti.

Mr. Al Sulaiti clarified that the tents came in time to make winter less cold. “The tents were designed according to good specifications: they are fireproof, heatproof, coldproof; and have holes for the heaters and mattresses. The tents made the benefiting families feel great since it’s given them shelter and saved them from the harsh winter and saved their dignity,” added he.

QC’s delegation has already distributed 2,000 food baskets to the Syrian refugees in Reyhanlı, near the borders. 10,000 people benefited from this initiative which took place as part of ‘Syria: an Endless Winter’ campaign.

This campaign was inaugurated last November in order to fight against the harsh winter. The campaign targets to collect around 54,000,000 QR for the benefit of 735,000 people.

The food basket which will be distributed consists of basic supplies which are sufficient for a family of 5 for a month. It has been distributed to a number of Syrian refugees who have nothing to eat and live under difficult circumstances; it is also to support feeding the patients at Al Amal Hospital, which is funded by QC, and a number of nursing homes.

The campaign’s products include ‘Family Winter Basket for a Family of 4’ at a cost of 1,000 QR. The basket comprises of a blanket, a heater, winter jackets, hats, gloves, socks and neck scarves. QC and 12 Humanitarian Organiz

His Excellency Abdul-Raqib Saif Fath, "QC has contributed to the alleviation of the sufferings of the Yemeni people."

QC hosted a preparatory workshop organized by QC and 12 other humanitarian organizations. It was attended by His Excellency Mr. Abdul-Raqib Saif Fath, Minister of Local Administration and the Chairman of the Higher Committee for Relief in Yemen.

The initiative committee included the Higher Committee for Relief, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Arab League, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (Saudi Arabia), The International Committee of the Red Cross (Switzerland), Qatar Charity Society, International Humanitarian City (Emirates), International Medical Corps (United States of America), International Islamic Charitable Organization (Kuwait), Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH Turkey), Start Network (Britain), and International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA in Switzerland).

The workshop was held for the preparation of the Conference of Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen: Challenges and Prospects of the Humanitarian Response. The initiators met for consultation, coordination and cooperation so as to face the deteriorating situation of the Yemenis and their increasing sufferings.

Humanitarian Contributions

During the workshop, Mr. Fath spoke about the great humanitarian efforts QC exerted to alleviate the sufferings of the affected Yemenis who have been suffering from the recent escalation of the crisis in their country.

In addition, he displayed to the attendants the humanitarian circumstances in Yemen and clarified the procedures that are followed in dealing with the situation. He explained, "Our work is divided into several stages. The first stage includes an urgent relief campaign for all of the territories. We are done working on this stage and we started with the second stage which covers the territories where hostilities have stopped. We identify the needs and in cooperation with our partners, we plan our response."

Mr. Abdul-Raqib commended QC's work. "QC is considered to be one of the most active humanitarian organizations in Yemen. With the continuous increase in the numbers of the injured in Yemen, QC's support to the Health sector is spectacular. The Health Sector requires bigger operating theatres and more ambulances," added he.

The conference seeks to unite the visions of the active partners in assisting the Yemenis. It aspires to set the floor for an exchange of information, reinforcement of applied procedures related to identifying the Yemenis' needs according to their type and geographical distribution. It is also to help develop the work plans and joint initiatives.

Mr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Ghamdi, QC's CEO of International Development, said that QC has proven its entire and continuous commitment to offering humanitarian and relief aids to the Yemenis. "QC has not spared any effort to alleviate the sufferings of the Yemenis and provide all the necessary means and supplies for a better life."

He also emphasized on QC's role in hosting and organizing the conference about the Yemeni crisis and how such efforts reflect QC's continuous work for the benefit of the Yemenis regionally and internationally. "QC always makes sure to coordinate, cooperate and exchange information with active humanitarian actors in the Yemeni crisis. It also prioritizes implementing relief projects inside Yemen considering the fact that its people are in deep need for aids. Many people who live there suffer from great shortages in drinking water, food and medications," said he.

QC, as Al Ghamdi said, will exert more efforts to respond to the most urgent calls for relief. It will cooperate with all of the active partners and the parties interested in the Yemenis' affairs, whether those related to the displaced, the besieged inside Yemen, or refugees outside Yemen in order to enable them to receive all of the means for a dignified life.

"Yemen, We Are With You"

It is worth mentioning that QC had already inaugurated a campaign entitled 'Yemen, We Are With You' when the crisis first started. It aimed at collecting a financial support of 36,500,000 QR in order to provide food and medication to around 1,260,000 Yemenis. QC also hosted the workshop on the humanitarian situation in Yemen which was attended by several humanitarian institutions from the Gulf and the Islamic World. The meeting resulted in creating a mechanism and a plan for urgent humanitarian intervention, and announcing commitments and pledges by the participants in order to hurry in offering urgent aids.
