Qatar Charity (QC) has marked the International Youth Day designated by the United Nations General Assembly to celebrate and young peoples’ meaningful voices, actions and initiatives.

“Engaging youth in humanitarian action and community service is among our priorities,” said Qatar Charity on the International Youth Day, which is commemorated every year on 12 August.

This special day is being observed this year under the theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action, which seeks to shed light on ways, in which the engagement of young people is enriched locally, nationally and globally, in addition to drawing lessons on how the participation of youth in the community development is enhanced.

Believing in the importance of youth participation in humanitarian and volunteer work, Qatar Charity engages young people, as a key driver, in its humanitarian and volunteer operations to contribute to achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.

In this regard, Qatar Charity has allowed the participation of more than 8,000 volunteers in its volunteering initiative to fight the battle against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic within the State of Qatar.

In the blessed month of Ramadan, Qatari youth, in cooperation with Qatar Charity, launched an initiative to provide Iftar meals and food baskets for workers and families with limited income.

Qatar Charity has also launched the ‘Rescue Mission’ initiative, in cooperation with Qatari youth initiatives, as part of its “A call of Humanity” campaign aimed at fighting the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Qatar Charity also has other initiatives and programs like the ‘Initiatives’ Challenge’ and ‘Khair Homes’ that extend support to youth volunteers to help low-income families.

Qatar Charity and Qatar University signed a cooperation agreement in 2016 to provide volunteering opportunities for young people.

Qatar Charity has allowed influential youth to visit disaster-hit areas and crisis-affected zones in many countries such as Indonesia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, and Bangladesh, Gaza, Yemen and the Syrian-Turkish borders.

Qatar Charity has also engaged young volunteers in humanitarian fieldwork through competitive events and radio and television programs.
