The objective of the project is to teach sewing to 25 refugee Syrian girls and women for free every nine months. The center also provides jobs to 40 women.

Under the slogan “Having a Job Beats Poverty”, the “Mother Sewing Center” was opened to teach female Syrian refugees how to sew in Sidon, Lebanon. The project is implemented by QC in cooperation with the Islamic Welfare Association, Imam Hussein Mosque Association in Bramiye- Sidon, and Human Appeal International-UK.

The Center’s Facilities

The project is intended to teach sewing for free to the female Syrian refugees. The center is equipped to teach 25 women every 9 months, providing 40 Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian refugee women with job opportunities. A bazaar will be added to the center to allow the distribution of cloths to the needy displaced families.

The project consists of a workshop, a center to teach sewing, an atelier (to display the products and the donated clothes whether new or used after packing and sorting them), a hall to receive donated clothes, and a laundry.

The total cost of the project was 1,000,000 $. QC contributed with 350,000 $ (about 1,300,000 QR) needed for equipping the workshop and the teaching center.

Sustainable Projects

During the “Mother Sewing Center” inauguration ceremony, Mr. Ibrahim Zeinal Mousa, Deputy Executive Director for International Development and Relief, said that QC was committed to help the Syrians. For that purpose, it spent over 102,000,000 $ on its relief projects (67% inside Syria and 33% in Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, Iraq, and other countries).

He added, “QC was first concerned with securing food and shelter to the Syrian brothers and sisters, but afterwards, it started implementing sustainable projects. It supported education and schools, as well as income generating projects and food security inside Syria and countries of refuge.” He also announced that QC was preparing for a new project in the field of e-learning at a cost of 3,000,000$.

Mr. Zeinal commended the efforts exerted by all the partners to implement the sewing center project, and emphasized that education was the infrastructure necessary for any economic development. He also thanked the Qatari philanthropists who contributed to the funding of the project that would save the Syrian refugees’ dignity and help them be financially independent.

Three Partners

Mr. Hasan Abu Zayed, CEO of the “Mother Sewing Center”, thanked the philanthropists in Sidon and the sponsoring organizations. For his part, Mr. Othman Mukbel, CEO of the Human Appeal International-UK, said, “When we cooperate, we can implement the best projects.” He thanked the Islamic Welfare Association for proposing the center idea and QC for contributing to the funding and equipment of the workshop and the teaching center.

QC, the Human Appeal International-UK, and the Islamic Welfare Association have signed –on the sideline of the third International Forum for Humanitarian Action- a partnership agreement to implement the sewing workshop and teaching center. At a cost of 3,700,000 QR, the project targets female Syrian refugees in Lebanon with the objective of protecting them and enabling them economically.

As part of its continuous relief efforts in Syria, QC recently implemented an agricultural project for the inhabitants of the northern countryside (of Aleppo) – Tall Rif’at. The project, from which 550,000 people benefited, included cultivating 40 Hectars with wheat. The project cost 350,000 QR. Another agricultural project was implemented by QC to serve the inhabitants of Aleppo Countryside, Idleb countryside, and the Coast. The project, which cost 550,000 QR, aimed at securing food for the Syrian people and providing them with job opportunities specially the ones displaced inside Syria.
