Qatar Charity(International Humanitarian Organization) has completed its preparations to launch the second edition of the “Future’s Writers” Program following the success of its first edition in the last academic year.

The second edition will allow larger segments of society, including male and female youth, to participate in the program, opening up to a broader spectrum of governmental and non-governmental bodies for coordination and partnership.

Mr. Ali Ibrahim Al Ghareeb, Executive Director of Local Operations Department at Qatar Charity said that Qatar Charity has completed its preparations to launch the second edition of the program, which will be characterized by greater openness to the different segments of society, including male and female.

Al Ghareeb added that the program will consist of two main categories: adolescents (12-16 years) and youth (17-20 years), pointing out that the competition will be held between March and mid-May of this year and the same conditions and stages applied on the first edition, will be applicable to the second one too.

He also said that the second edition will be launched under the generous patronage of Barwa Bank, noting that Qatar Charity sought coordination and partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar University, Qatari Forum For Authors, Dar Roza and the Khair Jalees Book Club to implement the program, in a way that ensures its success.

He explained that Qatar Charity aims, through this program’ to contribute to enriching the cultural scene, developing and advancing the Qatari society, spreading the culture of reading and improving writing and authoring skills, especially among children and youth.

Attention of the Ministry of Culture

Earlier this month, Dar Al-Kutub Al-Qatariyah hosted a discussion session, organized by the Qatari Forum For Authors, on the first edition of the “Future’s Writers” Program, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Salah Bin Ghanim Al Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports, representatives of the participating bodies, and a large number of creative writers in addition to Saleh Ghareeb.

The Minister of Culture and Sports stressed during the session that writers and authors should be responsible for making a positive change in society through the production of knowledge, so that Qatar will remain as an example of the moral excellence, hoping that the next generation will be the best to serve the country at the cultural and intellectual level.

First Edition of the Program

The first edition of the “Future’s Writers” Program has achieved many of its objectives and was also praised and promoted by a number of well-known bodies and personalities including the Minister of Culture and Sports, Mr. Salah Bin Ghanim Al Ali.

It is worth noting that six stories have been announced as winners in the first edition of the "Future’s Writers" Program for the academic year 2016-2017, which was implemented at the level of schools in Qatar in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar University and Khair Jalees Book Club.

Qatar Charity (QC) launched the second edition of its "Future’s Writers" Program to promote young Qatari talents, during an event held at the headquarters of the Qatari Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The ceremony was attended by many prominent figures including Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, the Minister of Culture and Sports and Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, the CEO of Qatar Charity, in addition to several directors of the QC’s different departments, a number of staff from the Ministry and many social media influencers and leaders and those interested in the cultural affairs.

A Seed for a Great Project

Salah bin Ghanim al-Ali, the Minister of Culture and Sports, said that the "Future’s Writers" Program is a seed for a project that will have a great impact not only in the Arab and Muslim world, but also in the whole world.

The Minister pointed out that the Qatari people are role models for the whole world, especially for this region, expecting that the idea of the program could not be remain regional, but it should be global.

"I'm still reading the young writers. They're young, but a person can find out a lot of the ideas and issues they have in their own way" the Minister said, stressing that these writings are great ideas from the book of young writers.

The Minister thanked the organizers, partners and official sponsors and wished that this edition would be successful in discovering new talents in writing stories.

The CEO of Qatar Charity, Yusuf Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari said “We are very pleased with the level of cultural mobility in our country, as our "Future’s Writers" Program is welcomed and supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and now we are here to launch the second edition of the program”.

He also thanked all the supporting bodies and partners of the "Future's Writers" Program, particularly, Qatar University, Barwa Bank, Dar Roza Publishing House and the Khair Jalees Book Club.

Aisha Al Kuwari, Director of the Dar Roza Publishing House, said: "our participation in this great cultural event along with other community bodies is to create a promising future, noting that one of the main goals of our publishing house is to encourage and promote young and promising talents, which is reflected in the "Future's Writers" Program.

The ceremony also witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between Dar Roza Publishing House and Qatar Charity(International Charity Organization), under which the publishing house will print 1000 copies of the “Future's Writers” free of charge.

Qatar Charity (QC) has received more than 370 participations from the preparatory and secondary schools for boys and girls as part of its grand annual "Future’s Writers" competition.

The competition is a new method to discover and develop young literary talents by selecting, training and honoring short story writers, and publishing and distributing winning stories to the public.

Discovering Talents

The charity ‘through this competition’ aims to contribute to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030 by providing a range of talent search programs, preparing a well-educated and cultured generation capable to meet challenges, spreading the culture of reading and developing writing student’s skills, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar University, Barwa Bank, Qatari Forum For Authors, “Khair Jalees” Book Club and Dar Roza Publishing.  

Ali Ibrahim Al Ghareeb, Executive Director of the QC’s Local Operations Department said the community development and service are among main goals of Qatar Charity. It also seeks to promote and preserve the Arabic language and spread the culture of reading among middle and high school students, pointing out that the participation from the Qatari students represents up to 20 percent of total participations.

Ms. Maysoun Ali Asida, Project Manager said participations have been forwarded to the judging committees to review and evaluate them in order to select the candidates for the second phase of the competition, which is about attending the training workshops conducted by professors from Qatar University and the Arabic Language Committee. The nature of the workshops will be about writing the short story.

She added that a meeting will be held with the judging committees for boys and girls to discuss the judging criteria. Then, several meetings will be held to select the final groups qualified for the second phase of the program, which will be announced on April 4.

Judging Committee

The judging committee for boys consists of Dr. Ahmed Safar, Coordinator of the Arabic Language Department at Qatar University, Hassan Al Nuaimi, Arabic Language Expert, Ahmad Al Dukas, Arabic Language Standards Specialist, and Ali Al Rachied, Head of the QC’s Content and Publishing Section.

The judging committee for the girls includes Safinaz Al-Hasasneh, Arabic Language Standards Specialist, Noor Al-Hammadi, Arabic Language Coordinator, Shama Al-Kuwari, a novelist and fictionist, and Aisha Al-Kuwari, CEO of Dar Roza Publishing.
